Teeth Cleaning

Why regular dentist visits are important for teeth cleaning?

Taking good care of your mouth, teeth and gums is a worthy goal in and of itself. Teeth Cleaning can help prevent bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease—and can help you keep your teeth as you get older.

Every 6 month dentist should check your smile and inform you about any treatments necessary. Teeth Cleaning at the Dentist is very important as it will help you keep healthy mouth. This will help prevent any bigger dental problems and gum disease.

Even if you brush and floss twice a day there might be areas in your mouth that are hard to reach with the toothbrush. Therefore, Regular Scale and Polish visits are necessary to thoroughly clean the teeth and remove Plaque, Stains and Tartar.

Teeth Cleaning

What is Plaque, Stains and Tartar?

  1. More than 500 species of bacteria thrive in your mouth at any given time. These bacteria constantly form dental plaque — a sticky, colourless film that can cling to your teeth and cause health problems.
  2. Tartar, sometimes called calculus, is plaque that has hardened on your teeth. It can also form at and underneath the gumline and irritate gum tissues. Tartar gives plaque more surface area on which to grow and a much stickier surface to adhere, consequently leading to more serious conditions, such as cavities and gum disease.
  3. Coffee, wine, cola or other drinks or foods can stain teeth. Dentist will remove stains using Airflow Polish at Urgent Dental Care practice.

Teeth Cleaning – What is Scale and Polish?

A scale and polish is a quick cleaning of the teeth carried out by a dentist.  Usually using something called an Ultrasonic, the dentist will clean around the gum line on the back and front of your teeth to remove any plaque and tartar.  This treatment usually lasts around 20-40minutes.  The treatment is finished by a quick polish of the teeth.
